Common reasons ID verification may not pass automatically
The most frequent cause is a photo quality issue with the document image. To give your document the best chance of passing first time:
- Lay the document flat on a dark or contrasting, plain surface.
- Make sure all four corners are visible in the frame.
- Avoid covering any part of the card with your fingers or thumb.
- Minimise glare — avoid direct overhead lighting or bright windows behind you.
- Ensure the image is in focus before submitting.
Other reasons verification may not pass automatically:
- Your selfie does not clearly show your face.
- The document type or country does not match what was selected.
- Your document has expired or is outside the allowed tolerance window.
What happens if my verification is flagged for review?
If your verification cannot be completed automatically, a member of the Checkmate support team will assess it. They may be able to verify your document by sight, or they may contact you to request a clearer document or an alternative form of ID.
